Huddle
Tuddle The Cat
hey diddle diddle the cat in the fiddle the cow jumped over the moon,
the little dog laughed to see such fun and the dish ran away with the spoon.
One day, in
Anonymous Farm, which was located in the flourishing plains
of nowhere in
particular, Huddle Tuddle the cat was on his way to see his wife, who
had had her first litter of kittens last night, when buttercup, the
cow who was in one of the paddocks beside the cat's house, leaned
over the fence and
said to the cat,
“You know there's a full moon tonight, Huddle
Tuddle?”
“Yes. Why?”
“Well... er...nothing really. It's
just I always feel
very over excited and energetic when there's a full moon. Do you
think you would mind coming down here this evening?”
“Nnno.
Why?”
“Because I'm going to jump over the moon!”
“Because I'm going to jump over the moon!”
“Really?”
“Yes. I'd like you to invite all the farm animals possible to come
and watch me, and I'd also
like you to play Fuddle for me.”
“Alright.” and the cat ran off to his wife.
Fuddle was a
violin which had been given to him by the fairies when he was a
kitten and which he had named, to rhyme with his own name. It was
a very special violin and was just the right size. If it had been an ordinary
violin, he couldn't have played it even if it had been the right
size, but because Fuddle was a magic violin he could play anything on
it. His favorite song was “Hey diddle diddle” and he was going
to play that tonight.
There
were three kittens. Huddle Tuddle spent a long time counting them
over and over again until his wife, Tabitha, told him that he must
have better things to do than poking his kittens and getting them
cold. She was right, he did
have better things to do. He went to the
farm-house and
called to the
dog, Max, from the fence,
“You are invited to the cow-paddock this
evening to see madame Buttercup jump over the moon!”
Max just
laughed and told Huddle Tuddle to go catch a mouse and stop bothering
him. Next was the hen-house, which Huddle Tuddle didn't go near if
he could possibly help it because of Robert the rooster. Today he
wasn't in sight, but when Huddle Tuddle had invited one of the hens,
he saw Robert around the corner and ran for it. In the course of the
day, Huddle Tuddle invited the sheep, the doves, the mice, the
rabbits, the magic
dish and spoon,(accidentally), and he tried
to invite the farmer and
his wife, but they couldn't understand him.
That
evening, almost all heads on the farm were turned toward the
cow-paddock. The dog and the dish and spoon watched through the
fence. Everyone held their breaths as a cloud moved from the face of
the moon and silver beams of light shone down into the paddock where
the cow was waiting. Huddle Tuddle started playing on Fuddle. The
cow crouched down and jumped. Everyone was gazing up at her as she
vanished into the
sky.
Then Max began to laugh. Huddle Tuddle was annoyed, he had
arranged this specially and made sure everything was perfect and now Max
was spoiling it all. The dish and the spoon noticed him and started running
away, because the dog had sworn that the next time he found them
loose he would eat them up.
Max stopped laughing and ran after them.
He was just about to chomp them into little bits when the
cow came
down and landed right on top of him. The dish and the spoon escaped
into the house and all the animals except Huddle Tuddle returned to
their respective resting places. Huddle Tuddle stopped playing and leaned over the fence to ask the cow,
“Did you really get over the moon?”
"Well,no. But don't tell anyone.”
“I won't”
and he went to bed.
THE
END
Huddle Tuddle the cat in the fuddle the cow has been to the moon,
she landed right on top of the dog who was eating the dish and the spoon.
